All Dharma Yoga classes are based on the Shiva Namaskara Vinyasa flow: a series created by Sri Dharma Mittra specifically designed to strengthen and purify the entire system. Following the vinyasa portion of the class is a specific series of stationary poses. Also included in each class are breathing exercises, chanting, deep relaxation, meditation and a brief philosophical discourse.
Our teachers offer a supportive environment for students to practice easefully and make rapid progress towards the ultimate goal of Yoga. Students new to the style can expect a concentrated, yet playful practice space, rooted in the foundational principle of Yoga: Ahimsa or Non-Violence. We encourage students to come to the practice free from expectation, without any sense of competition or judgment.
Dharme Gentle | Open to All | A slow paced, healing class suitable for all levels and ages. Postures are introduced in a slow, meditative manner, focusing on the healing and regenerative benefits of Yoga. Class concludes with an extended deep relaxation and meditation. Perfect for those new to yoga, or anyone interested in a slower paced class with a focus on releasing tension and healing the body.
Dharma I Basics | Beginner | Learn the Dharma I series in this foundational class. The teacher will break down our beginning series, posture by posture, for a deeper understanding of alignment and sequencing. This class is personalized for those interested in learning the fundamental principles of a healthy practice or anyone who wants to deepen his or her existing practice.
Dharma I | Beginner to Advanced Beginner | A gentle, yet powerful series of balancing, stretching, back bending, twisting and inverted postures. This class introduces the Level I Shiva Namaskar Vinyasa to warm up the body, bring flexibility to the muscles and joints, and wake up the nervous system. Followed by a deep relaxation, breathing, meditation and brief yogic discourse.
Dharma I - II | Beginner to Intermediate | Building on the Dharma I Sequence, this class offers deeper variations for the student interested in progressing to the intermediate Dharma II sequence. Students are free to work at their own level, slowly progressing toward more challenging poses. Full inversions are introduced, including headstand as well as stronger balancing poses.
All Level | Beginner to Advanced | This mixed level class is open to any level of practitioner. Directions are given to each student according to his or her capacity with personal corrections offered when needed. Students are recommended to practice at their own pace, slowly working with variations independently within the flow of the Shiva Namaskar Vinyasa. Open to All.
Dharma II - III | Intermediate to Advanced | Deepen your practice with this invigorating series. Through concentration and steadiness, you will easily move into the more challenging variations of the advanced Dharma sequence. Arm balances, full inversions, twists, splits and backbends are taught. Mudras and bandhas are introduced as well as more advanced meditation techniques.
Deep Relaxation | Open to All | Relaxation is the best antidote for impurities, stress, tension and disease in the body. Receive the benefits of several hours of regular sleep in this unique session designed to heal and regenerate the entire system. Begins with calming breathing exercises, gentle stretching, and followed by an in-depth Yoga Nidra (guided relaxation) to refresh and renew.
Kirtan | Open to All | Kirtan is the repetition of the name: call and response chanting of of ancient mantras. One of the simplest ways to purify the heart and experience peace within. For more information on our Kirtan schedule click here.
